History of the Arbor District p. 4

The town founders recorded a second town plat on 25 April 1853.  The second plat contained outlots.  Outlots were larger, averaging 2.5 acres, and surrounded the smaller town lots. A total of 69 outlots, all in Section 21, were recorded.  This was the balance of the 240 acres in Section 21.  Outlots 30 and 37 were reserved for future city schools.  Outlot 33 was reserved for a cemetery, and became Woodlawn Cemetery the following year.

The remaining land, 120 acres in Section 16, was divided into 10 acre outlots, with each of the founders claiming one of these larger lots.[1]
